Overview
For this project I was asked to create a world in photoshop that was outlandish and unrealistic. I was inspired by the artstyle “weirdcore” where everything feels disorientating but oddly nostaligic. The biggest trouble with this project would be creating a world where everything is cut up from many different pictures but still making sure the design has some realism in it.
Solution
Based on this aesthetic I came up with this design, a bright pink sky filled with flying eyes and floating islands. I made sure to think about where my lighting was coming from to keep it consistant and realistic. Thus I added many shadows on objects to reinforce that idea. To show off how the design could be implemented in the real world I created a mockup of a poster for an artist with the same style. The artist I chose was Melanie Martinez and her album “Portals”. This album has a surreal aesthetic filled with depictions of ethereal beings with many eyes that almost feel nostalic. I felt this was a perfect album to represent my work so I made a promotional poster keeping the same elements.
