Overview
This project aimed to create a family of stamps and showcase them on a poster with the same theme. The challenge was creating a family of designs of different cities while still making them visually cohesive. Stamps are made quite small so the designs couldn’t be too complex without being lost with size. In addition there were requirements such as adding “Forever USA” somewhere on the stamp.
Solution
My process began from the theme of worldwide travel that stamps and envelopes give. Thus I created the World Cities series which shows offs some landmarks of a few of the world’s most popular cities. In my first sketches I wanted to show the beautiful views of different US cities but I ran into two problems. The first was that having the city was overwhelming for such a small stamp. That’s why I decided to just focus on landmarks for this project. The other problem was that having only limiting myself to US cities didn’t give a lot of options for landmarks so I decided on broadening it to any world city. This allowed me to create a series that truly felt like it was traveling the world.
